Friendly Monster

A quick monster concept for a project I'm putting together.

Hatching

Did this some time last month. I couldn't sleep and this happened.
(various brush pens, photoshop and a dash of insomnia)

Sketchbooking

Packing up some old sketchbooks while getting ready for another move so I figured I'd grab some scans for a quick sketchdump. No real rhyme or reason just flipped to a page and if I liked it I scanned it.

Since I'm moving from Singapore back to California, my computer/scanner will be on a boat for a while and I won't be able to post much art here. However, I will be posting art through my twitter which you can find here: https://twitter.com/TonyBrescini

Shaggy

A coffee shop sketch (and a dash of Photoshop) that turned into Shaggy from Scooby Doo. Somebody commented that it looked like he had to put Scooby down but I definitely wasn't going that dark with this. I do wish I'd thought of that, though.

Here's the process for a piece I put together for the Dark Horse's "Draw the Goon" contest. I found out about the contest a few hours before the deadline and had to knock this out pretty quickly.

Step 1: Quick sketch in my sketchbook that I scan, blow up and print out in blueline. Time permitting, I would have played around a bit at this stage to get a few more ideas out and on the paper.

Step 2: Loose pencils.

Step 3: Final inks. I don't generally pencil very tightly and do most of my actual drawing in ink but in this case, I wish I'd done a bit more of the prep work in pencil.

I may go back and add some tones in Photoshop to punch it up but overall I kind of like it.

Rollerskate Skinny

A warm up sketch that I got carried away with. Brought to you by the Old 97's Rollerskate Skinny.

Twitter Sketches

Some sketches from the Twitter. The monkey was a result of mixing jetlag with cold medicine, the preppy guy is from the sheer amount of dudes here in Singapore that pop their collars (it's like an island full of 80's movie villains) and the westside guy...um...that just happened. Also, I tend to update that more frequently since it's a bit easier to do. You can check it out here: https://twitter.com/TonyBrescini
